PETA Cruelty Free: What does it mean and why does it matter for our planet?

PETA Cruelty Free: What does it mean and why does it matter for our planet?

When a company is certified as PETA Cruelty Free PETA has verified “that they and their suppliers do not conduct, commission, pay for, or allow any tests on animals for their ingredients, formulations, or finished products anywhere in the world and that they will never do so in the future.” A company that also has an entire product line free of animal-derived ingredients is certified as PETA Cruelty Free and Vegan.

OK so we care about our planet AND living things, right? Yes! It feels good to support companies that do not test on animals. Yes. But did you know that by purchasing cruelty free and vegan products you are also reducing your carbon footprint? It’s true! Here’s why...

  1. The animals used in testing need to be transported, fed and housed. These processes use unnecessary resources and create pollution and waste.
  2. Product lines that are testing on animals are often testing questionable, unnatural chemicals. Cruelty Free products are more likely to use ingredients that are safe for humans and the environment!
  3. As unpleasant as it is to hear, these animals (and the chemicals on/in their bodies) also need to be disposed of, contributing to massive (and unnecessary)  bio-waste and pollution. Cruelty Free products undergo ethical rigorous testing without harming animals or our planet.

At Clean Crate many of the products we carry are certified PETA Cruelty Free and Vegan, to check out a products certifications click the “why we love it” tab on each product page. Although some of the smaller companies that we have selected to work with do not have the PETA certification, many of them have a strong commitment to Cruelty Free. We are proud to offer a variety of Cruelty Free and Vegan options as part of our Clean Crate Subscription and Add-on Shop
